слово-то как раз южное (в смысле по частоте употребления), видимо Вы еще ОЧЕНЬ молоды или не учились в США... Лет 50 назад слышали бы его каждодневно. Но если выражения типа "betcha" используют деревенщины и некоторые оные лица (в качестве прикола), то "thou" - это невежливая форма Sie и являлась общеупотребимой. "Sie" с течением времен заменило всем известное "you", а вот thou по руковам Миссисипи отдавалось еще долго в ушах чёрных братьев!((( "The fight is not over"
а вообще в тему, про интеллект южан ДАЖЕ среди американцев ходит просто миллиард шуточек:
