<a href="http://www.carlsberg.com" target="_blank">все доказательства здесь</a>

J.C. Jacobsen (1811-1887) began his career as a brewer in his father's small brewery. Here, top fermented beer was produced in the middle of Copenhagen. The Danish capital was overpopulated and city hygiene was poor. J.C. Jacobsen wanted to improve this situation. He wanted rational and industrial production, and this drove him to look outside the polluted capital.

On a hill in the village of Valby, a few kilometres outside the city's old ramparts, he found a location with lots of light, fresh air, clean water and plenty of space. Here he founded Carlsberg - a combination of the name of his 5-year old son, Carl, and the Danish word hill (berg).

The goal was to produce a completely new product for the Danes: bottom fermented, matured beer in accordance with the Bavarian tradition. At that time only top fermented beer was brewed in Denmark.

J.C. Jacobsen had tasted imported German beer at a Copenhagen wine merchant's, and the idea of brewing Bavarian beer developed into a passion. First he travelled to Altona to learn the production methods, and later he embarked on several study trips to Munich.

In 1845, after a long and tedious journey by stagecoach, he brought two litres of Bavarian beer yeast home with him. After a few experiments at his Copenhagen brewery, he was able to start production of bottom fermented beer at his new brewery, Carlsberg in Valby, on November 10th, 1847.

Carlsberg was an immediate success and production increased rapidly over the following years, which made it necessary to undertake several expansions. J.C. Jacobsen was a pioneer, not only with regard to the product itself, but also in the technology employed. In 1849, the brewery procured a two horse power steam engine which operated a well pump. The use of steam at the brewery made it possible to introduce other machines e.g. steam boiling in 1866. The iniated use of this in brewing was quite controversial at the time. However, it turned out to be a very effective process, saving money and improving quality.
