Well, several (about 5-6) years a spent my time with teachers (young american students) from ILP-programm couz at that time I was involved in different programms as a member of LDS Church. But last 4 years I practice my English with books(little bit), movies, chatting on IRC and phone with my freinds from US... Also I have an ex-girlfriend from US. She still loves me and callin' me once a month for cheat-chat So this is my practice! Ah! My basics of English I received from my personal teacher at school (she was a neighbour of my family), and in advanced group of teachin' English in VSU. This is it.

I'm not sure that this is a bad thing Americans are more welcome and open to other people. More communicative may be... U can speak really bad English with them, no big deal! They'll understand u in any case...

Dear Jeanne,
Good question. And the answer is - no, I guess. At present I have a person that I, like, really, really like... But... There's a "but" involved. So maybe it's just not the one?
Maybe not, maybe the time will show everything.I think in such cases time shows much and you just shouldn't promise him anything and should look around, maybe the blessed meeting is still waiting for you.Only DON'T HURRY!PLEASE! :yaya:
Can you say exactly what is your "but", if it's too personal you can write to me personally,I'll be happy to help if you need. :rev:

Sure?
what do you mean saying 'city' - old school definition, that it's a big town?...
Even gorgeous Londo is called town, though it's got several cities - Westminser city, London city and etc., does VRN have it... The answer is no... City - is economical, cultural, and sometimes geografical heart of the big town, where people normally don't live but work/study/spend money and time for to have fun....
NY Big Apple has city, and other parts of it, are just sleeping districts...
Paris, my love, has Cite
Barselona, Madrid, Moscow, St. Petersburg... but not Stockholm or Helsinki for ex...

So, still sure Voronezh is a city? (for a foreign ear it sounds ridiculuous)

TehhiiWell, your answer is irrefragable, but maybe it also depends on personal feelings, being patriotic and proud of our city,on the other hand Voronezh is the capital of a whole region and is the seat of government. Moreover in the dictionary 2 meanings are given - one of them is "a big city"(in the USA it's determined due to the population or by the government),the other meaning is City(like the City of London)...

And I also adore Paris, though I've never been there, have you?

Dictionaries are not the resourses I use to get the meaning of the words, besides, dictionaries copy the natives, but not the natives copy dictionaries. So, I use city only to respectable 'big cities' which, don't thow eggs into my face, Voronezh is not. Patriotic itches are not the thing that may motivate me to name a molehill a mountain.
Paris is great, have been there not once It has bits for everybody, don't know anyone who detested Paris, or simply disliked it...

Olaf77, No arguments against Americans.... What they say, they say!!! Complete mystery why they do it exactly so??? Perhaps you may explain, can't you?E.g., why they consider to be Sunday week initial day, and why they put month before day in a date indication, when the rest of the world is treating Monday as week-beginner and use dd/mm/yy system ...
Anyway, why not to call any populated place a city just becuse Americans do so

Well, yeah, we have an American guest right now in Voronezh, my colleague for the next couple of months, and he would say Voronezh is "a big city". Like, one million people is A LOT in comparison with 200 thousand that make Destin, Florida, a city as well.
