Цитата:
The first album released worldwide by Virgin Records, Phaedra, was recorded in less than three
weeks. The title originates from the Greek myth of Phaedra, the daughter of Minos and Ariadne's
sister. She committed suicide after her stepson refused her advances. The album is divided into
four compositions: two credited to the group, one each to Edgar Froese and Peter Baumann. Along
with conventional instruments like guitar, bass, organ and flute, each member used a VCS 3
synthesiser. Edgar Froese played his Mellotron, Chris Franke the big Moog and Peter Baumann
electric piano. Phaedra was released on February 20th, 1974 and went straight into the album
charts, reaching number 15 of the British Top 20 and staying on the chart for 15 weeks.

Цитата:
In 1995, twelve years after Edgar Froese's last solo production Pinnacles in 1983, a double CD was released by Virgin, consisting of 28 tracks, part of them revealed for the first time. According to Froese: "The unreleased material consists of original compositions which were created over the last twenty years or so. Part of them existed as lead sheets, part on multi-tracked tapes, some from the original source on 1/4 inch tapes (which disintegrated upon being played). A lot of the ideas from these fragments were incorporated into the new recordings. It's impossible for me to give the precise date for each piece of music, since my library of unreleased musical anecdotes encompasses more than 60 hours of music. When Virgin asked me to assemble this compilation, I felt there were several 'missing links' in the background feeling and came up with drawing on a very small percentage of my private recordings. There are about 52 hours left to be used - sometime!"

The material taken from the earlier solo recordings has been reworked by Edgar Froese like he did one year before with TD material for the compilation Tangents. Some of the tracks have been only slightly reworked, others, like Upland, are radically remixed: After an intro with sound effects from the 1974 version, a strong rhythm is introduced which makes it hardly impossible to recognize the original composition. Some of the previously unreleased material was composed years ago and was only produced or overlayed with the help of modern equipment.

Цитата:
Edgar Froese's third solo album, Macula Transfer (the title referring to the sun spots), was recorded just before Tangerine Dream's Stratosfear in summer 1976 by Edgar Froese just on his own using an old 4-track Ampex tape machine that Tangerine Dream had bought from Abbey Road Studios. According to Edgar Froese, there were some differences at the time in TD dynamics and Edgar Froese recorded Macula Transfer just for fun.

Macula Transfer was released 1976 in Germany only, and furthermore fans had to wait nearly 22 years for the first official CD release of this rare album in 1998. After all other solo albums by Edgar Froese had been re-released by Virgin on CD, the only missing one, Macula Transfer, had now become available by Manikin Records. This Berlin-based label has become well-known due to some releases of material by Klaus Schulze and Ashra. Even if this CD release cannot be considered a bootleg, Edgar Froese took steps to stop distribution of it, as the rights had been sold to Manikin Records without informing him. Edgar Froese's position was that he should have been offered the rights first. They had been kept by a company in Hamburg, which had taken over the back-catalogue of Metronome/Brain. Manikin bought the rights from that company directly, while Edgar Froese already had plans to release Macula Transfer in a new version on his own. Thus, after the first bulk of 1,000 copies was sold, Manikin did not re-release the CD to avoid legal action. So the CD version of Macula Transfer became as rare as the original vinyl release.

Цитата:
In 1987 TD supplied part of the music for the movie Three O'Clock High. The soundtrack album was released in the same year, but obviously without any cooperation with TD. Thus the TD material featured on the album consists mostly of short musical cuts and appears besides seven tracks being no TD material at all. The running times printed on the CD cover are wrong in most cases and differ from the real running times listed above. In Germany the film was released with the title Faustrecht, and the soundtrack appears under this name in some mail order catalogues. Nevertheless this is the same CD as Three O'Clock High.

2. Live Material [Titled Set One] 37:29
3. Live Material [Titled Set Two] 45:50
4. Live Material [Titled Encore] 13:41
Цитата:
Playing two concerts on January 31st, 1980 to a crowd of approximately 3,000 people in the 'Palast der Republik' in East Berlin, this legendary performance 'behind the Iron Curtain' was the first live appearance for Johannes Schmoelling, taking place just a few weeks after he joined Tangerine Dream in late 1979 and a few months before the release of the album Tangram. The concert was part of the 22nd 'DT64-Jugendkonzert' series (youth concerts organized by the DT64 radio station), and the complete evening show was broadcast on East German radio in February 1980 (and again later in 1989).

The music featured on Tangerine Tree Volume 17: East Berlin 1980 is for the most part still unreleased officially, with only the first twenty minutes of the second set being more or less identical to Quichotte, Part Two as released on the album Quichotte (1980) of the GDR label Amiga and its international re-release Pergamon (1986). The source of this volume was a tape copy taken directly from a reel-to-reel master recording which no longer exists.

This release replaces several bootleg versions taken from this broadcast recording that emerged on the market during the eighties and nineties (including the vinyl release Staatsgrenze West and several releases on MC and CD-R).
So, "Staatsgrenze West" now obsolete.

Цитата:
A series of three bootlegs was issued within a few months time, featuring material from TD's tours of Great Britain in the early eighties. The first 40 minutes of TD's concert at Preston Guildhall, November 5th, 1980 are on Undulation, while another 20 minutes of this concert are on the bootleg Space Trucking. A limited edition of 5 numbered copies of "Undulation" has popped up with a colour front inlay.

CD bootleggers put out Undulation in digital format in 1992 under the misleading title Soundtrack For Fantasy, Live in Detroit, USA "Undulation". The CD case contains a simple coloured insert. The back insert wrongly states "Live in Detroit, USA". On the backside insert, the edition of the disc is given by 500 copies, but it probably is up to 1,000. The origin seems to be in Germany. The recording quality is very good.

In 1993 copies of the Undulation LP appeared, titled Edison's Last Playoff and alleged to be limited to 50 copies. Obviously only a few copies do exist, handmade by a fan or a dealer to offer them as swap material for rare items or to make much money out of them. The original matrix number from Undulation has been scratched out from the vinyl, and a new code EDLPO US77-A/B appears now.
